Sept 30, The Meaning of Life is in Twisp

Monty Pythons - The Meaning of LifeI recently recieved the following message from Kristine Stokes, "The Methow Arts Alliance and Blackbirds Country Store proudly presents MONTY PYTHON: THE MEANING OF LIFE. This outdoor movie is showing Saturday, September 30th starting at 7pm at 900 East Highway 20 in Twisp. The classic Monty Python group examines the meaning and purpose of life in a series of sketches from conception to death and beyond. The movie is sponsored by Olson and Ives & the River Run Inn. A suggested $5 donation will help fund future events that promote art education and presentations. Light meals, beverages, and popcorn will be available for purchase and it is recommended to bring warm clothing, blankets, and humor. Movie Rated R."

Douglas County Dust Devils

Douglas County dust devil crossing the roadThe conditions were just right for dust devils the other day when I was travelling through Douglas County. I must have seen 50 of these little funnels travelling across the fields. The most I saw at once was five whirling across the plains. Not knowing a whole lot about them, I decided to read up on these peculiararities of nature.

Wikipedia is full of Dust Devil info, including a short animation of a dust devil travelling across the surface of Mars.

The Weather Channel has a short description for dust devils and other wind anomalies.

Google Map Problem Fixed

Three days ago I noticed the markers on almost all the Google Maps on my website had dissappeared. Google had recently changed their map API to version 2 and I upgraded as needed. I recall added a new feature that was supposed to add some new functionality to the maps. I don't recall the feature working as it was supposed to but figured they would eventually get it worked out. It seems they must have dropped the feature and this is why the map markers dissappeared. Anyway, I removed the feature and the map markers are back and the maps themselves seem to be working faster than ever.Map of Big Bend Community CollegeWell I am on the topic of maps, I plan on upgrading the map setup soon. I have more map data than the maps are currently showing. For example, if you go to the Moses Lake Map page and scroll the map up to where Big Bend Community College is located, you'll see that I have almost completely mapped out the entire college. This information needs to appear on the Big Bend Community College page. Can't say how long it will take to get this done, since I still have the Quincy to Krupp-Marlin photos and info to finish.

Customized Weather Forecasts for all of North Central Washington

With the possible exception of a few bugs, the new North Central Washington Portal weather page is finished. Select a city from the list and get a weather forecast for that city. Weather warnings, advisories, and watches (if they are occuring) should show up above the 7 day text forecast in the lower section of the weather page.

If you have cookies enabled on your web browser, it should remember the last city you viewed. For example, if you choose Electric City and then leave the website, the next time you visit the website and click on the "Weather" link, it should open to the Electric City weather forecast. If anyone has problems getting the weather page to work, please let me know.

Updated Headlines and News

I updated the Headlines and News section of the website today. New headlines, if any, should appear on the hour and the page should load faster. An error was occuring when viewing the page in some versions of the Opera Web Browser, this has been fixed. Might still be some bugs to work out, so please be patient if the news is delayed. I will try to update the weather page tomorrow.
